Turns out, kids love the holidays.

A few years back, we began having elementary kids design our holiday card.

We get a card. The kids get encouraged to do art (winners also get a packet of their winning design). And the school gets a donation. Pretty cool deal. The theme? “Your favorite holiday activity.”

Well, this year’s entrants just came in from Hidden Springs Charter School. Lots of great entries. We spent today’s team lunch judging them. Winners to be announced!

Cool Boise company gets cool new web site.

This week we launched a new web site for Industrial Insulation Systems, a very cool Boise company that helps other companies save big bucks through custom insulation installation (say that 10 times fast) and innovative off-the-grid freezers and refrigerators. Even better, these products can also help governments and non-profits save lives in disaster relief situations. Basically, their products can keep any temperature critical item (medicine, blood, food, etc.) at cryogenic temperatures (that’s damn cold) for days on end without an external power source.

Really great products. Really great people. We’re proud to be associated with them.

As is often the case, much of the magic of this web site is in the back-end, which gives IIS complete control over updating and adding product info. You can find the site at www.iis-inc.com.

What we’re reading: Outliers, Malcolm Gladwell.

Outliers is a great read that takes a look at how the most successful among us got to the level they did. Hint: it wasn’t all luck and hard work.

According Gladwell, luck and hard work are critical, but we can’t ever under-estimate the power of our environment, opportunities and birthday. Yes, birthday.

Malcolm Gladwell is an excellent thinker and reporter who writes for the New Yorker. His previous books are Blink and The Tipping Point. Both also worth a read.

Don’t have time to pick up any of these books today? Watch this video of Malcolm Gladwell speaking at the TED conference:

Boise Convention & Visitors Bureau Calendar.

This video doesn’t do it justice, but we wanted to share this little calendar/direct mail that we recently created for the Boise Convention & Visitors Bureau. The calendar went out to meeting planners to promote Boise as the world’s greatest meeting place (Studies have proven that is true. Trust us.)

What makes this piece so cool is that it is a direct mail that begs to be kept around. The photos are fun and engaging, but not overwhelmingly sales-y. What you can’t see very well on this video is that each tab has a word or two that, when combined create little random sentences about everything “Boise is..”

Like this one: “Boise is beautifully captivating & friendly.” True. Or “Boise is unbelievably unforgettable for visitors.” How can you argue with that?

Anyway, thanks for the opportunity BCVB.
