Digital immigrants vs. digital natives.

Ron’s wife, a school teacher, brought this simple, yet profound, thought to our attention this week: as a generation, we are digital immigrants, our children are digital natives.

For the press and most people over 30 the evolution from the iPod, to the iPhone to the iPad has been dramatic. For younger folks, it is no big deal.

A little bit of research about this statement turned out that the terms “digital natives” and “digital immigrants” was dubbed by Marc Prensky back in 2001 in a seminal paper on this issue. It’s worth a read. Find it here.
